Meet Stitch Strategic and Product Partnerships Manager Josh Gordon

1. Describe your job to a 10-year-old

Our teams look after the part of the business involved in growing strategic and product partnerships at Stitch. That means we work closely with other financial institutions like banks, regulators and payments providers to build deep, meaningful relationships that enable us to all reach our goals in a way where everybody wins. A key part of this job is having deep knowledge of how payments work across different methods and finding opportunities to work together that often don’t seem obvious.

2. What excites you most about working on product partnerships in the payments space?

I constantly get to engage with top-tier individuals across the payments landscape in South Africa and globally. On a day-to-day basis, we have exploratory meetings with the aim of identifying novel solutions to the difficult problems we’re trying to solve. It’s so exciting to get different perspectives and understand the various challenges across the payments value chain.

3. How do you work with clients and partners when it comes to developing a product strategy?

We try our best to understand opportunities in the market and align our goals and interests with our partners to foster mutually beneficial relationships. A key principle in our team is that we can’t solve big, real, problems alone. By working with different players across the payments landscape, we believe that, together, we can foster innovation, push the boundaries and solve difficult payments-related challenges.

4. What’s your favourite thing about working at Stitch?

Others at Stitch have definitely said this before, but wow - the people! Every day,  I am blown away by how talented the team is and how ready everyone is to put up their hand and take ownership to deliver tangible value.

5. Where do you see the future of payments in South Africa headed? What trends are you most interested in?

The payments landscape is changing at lightning speed. I’m really excited to see how open banking matures and how the Rapid Payments Programme (RPP) starts to develop. I love the role payment service providers play in bridging the gap between banks, merchants, consumers and regulatory bodies to ensure innovation continues. I’m really excited for consumers to have more control over the ways they pay, and to expand the abilities for them to choose the method that is most inclusive, most convenient and most secure.
