A manual EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer), also known as manual transfer or Direct Deposit, is a payment made from a customer’s online banking portal or app to a business bank account. This is different from a regular Pay by bank payment in that the customer must leave the app or site they’re looking to pay and open ytheirour banking app or portal to make a payment.
Typically, manual EFTs take 1-3 days to clear. However, merchants receive notifications as soon as a transfer has been initiated.
To complete a manual transfer, customers choose Manual EFT as a payment method at checkout. They’ll be shown instructions indicating the account details to pay into, the amount, and a unique reference. They will need to log into their online banking portal and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the transfer and include the unique reference.
Businesses will be notified once a Manual EFT has been initiated, but settlement can take 2-3 days.
