Meet Stitch Solutions Architect Shaheel Kooverjee

1. Describe your job to a 10-year-old.

If a client is made up of a bunch of complex puzzle pieces that do different things, and if one of those things is handling payments from customers, Stitch can provide these puzzle pieces to make a payment happen. But, they still have to be built or plugged into the more complex picture, right?

That’s where my job comes in: I help the client in placing Stitch’s pieces into their puzzle to make sure they fit as neatly and as solidly as possible! Our end goal is to make sure these payments pieces fit well together so that accepting or making payments is quick and easy - for the business and their customers.

This fitting together is done through working with the client’s software engineers, simultaneously providing them with the best and simplest developer experience.

2. What excites you most about working in client solutions and support in the payments space?

I find it particularly exciting to get exposure to clients across different industries and to play a part in solving their payments problems. Because we work with large-scale enterprises, it’s always interesting and insightful to get more context on how some of these technical systems are built, how the overall products operate and how this all ties into the payments realm.

Once a client goes live with any Stitch product, it’s also very rewarding to see that they’re satisfied and that they’re being supported by Stitch.

3. What’s our approach to working with clients at Stitch, and what makes it unique? Why is it so important to maintain close engagement with our clients?

Our general approach is to be hands-on with our clients. That means supporting them and walking the journey with them while they integrate with any Stitch product. This is not a common approach - even from other key players in the industry.

As our clients integrate, our team is ready to support them with whatever they need according to their understanding, level of complexity or simplicity and pace. This could mean something as simple as providing them with custom code snippets for their integration’s coding language or as practical as going to their offices to assist them in person.

We maintain close engagement with our clients and truly listen to them and seek to deeply understand what their problems are. In doing this, we strive to harbor genuine, honest and easy-going working relationships with them.

4. What kind of bespoke features or support do we offer our clients?

Because we dedicate time and effort to each client, any specific integration details and the support thereof are bespoke. We really ensure all the nitty-gritty details around how the client plugs into our API, including their systems and technical environment, suit their exact requirements.

There are a few key phases during the process:

  • Scoping a client’s technical and operational requirements
  • Performing the integration and catering for nuanced behavior
  • Testing the integration on their platform
  • Planning their launch and going live or
  • Monitoring after they’ve gone live

We aim to do all of the above together, as far as possible, to ensure mutual quality and success. Building and solutioning bespoke features tends to crop up in cases where our clients encounter really specific or unique problems that we have the potential to solve. Internally, our team works closely with product and engineering to consider what we can support and enhance for our clients.

5. What’s your favourite thing about working at Stitch?

Working with ambitious and driven individuals is probably my favourite part of working at Stitch. It’s an extremely motivating environment to be part of, and everyone is always eager to help out. So we’re constantly learning from each other as well.

Rapid fire

  • How do you spend your free time / what are your hobbies?

Having a bit of a musical background, I enjoy analysing music of various genres – if I’m not actually playing piano (mostly classical). Otherwise, you could catch me building puzzles or sizable Lego constructions. I also enjoy being active, which, since recently, includes rock climbing with friends.

  • What would your superpower be and why?

Reading minds. Aside from this sounding fun, I think it would simplify so many things in life - in a personal or professional space.

  • What are you reading or watching at the moment?

Watching Fringe - a fun, crazy and classic sci-fi series.

  • What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

YOLO! But seriously: Seize the opportunities of today as tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

  • What’s your go-to lazy dinner?

I am known to cave for anything at Nando’s.
